Srinagar (Garhwal), February 16, 2026. A six-day capacity building training program on “Integrating Indian Knowledge Traditions into the Curriculum” was launched under the auspices of MMTTC at the Academic Activities Center in Chauras, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University. More than 95 teachers and researchers are participating in the program. Professor R.L. Narayana Sinha, UGC Observer, National Sanskrit Institute, New Delhi, was the chief guest at the inaugural session. In his address, Professor R.L. Narayana Sinha stated that the Indian knowledge tradition is not merely a heritage of the past, but a cornerstone of global knowledge discourse. Such courses will give Indian education a new identity internationally.

In his presidential address, Professor N.S. Panwar highlighted the rich tradition of Indian culture, which has made significant contributions to the world’s knowledge and science. He stated that incorporating an Indian perspective into the current education system is essential. Meanwhile, Chauras Campus Director, Professor R.S. Negi, shared his views on the contemporary relevance of the Indian knowledge tradition. As Campus Director, Professor Rajendra Singh Negi welcomed all the guests and extended his best wishes to the participants. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Anil Nautiyal stated that Indian education and culture have had a global influence for centuries and should be reinstated in the curriculum. Program coordinator Dr. Amarjeet Singh provided an overview of the program’s outline and objectives. MMTTC Co-Director Dr. Rahul Kunwar Singh welcomed all the guests, and the guests on the stage were honored with mementos and robes. At the end of the opening ceremony, Dr. Somesh Thapliyal presented a vote of thanks, expressing special gratitude to Vice Chancellor Professor Shriprakash Singh and MMTTC Director Professor D.S. Negi for their guidance. The program was successfully moderated by Dr. Puneet Walia and researcher Sagar Puri.

Five sessions in one day

The first day of the program included a presentation by Professor Shridev Suman Uttarakhand University. Kalpana Pant and Dr. Kusagra, Associate Professor at Amity University and UGC instructor, presented detailed lectures on the ideological foundations of the Indian knowledge system. Explaining the background of Indian philosophy, Prof. Kalpana Pant stated that the Indian thought tradition is a comprehensive intellectual tradition built on the Vedas, Upanishads, various philosophies, and folk experience. Knowledge is not limited to logic or sensory experience, but is instead linked to self-realization, morality, and public welfare. Describing philosophical streams such as Nyaya, Sankhya, Yoga, Mimamsa, and Vedanta as the foundation of the Indian knowledge system, she said that these traditions embrace a multifaceted search for truth and an integrated approach. Dr. Kusagra, describing the Indian knowledge system as a holistic knowledge structure, emphasized that it is not limited to philosophical discourse alone, but is a vibrant and practical tradition concerned with education, society, governance, health, and life behavior. It should be appropriately incorporated into contemporary curricula with a scientific perspective and critical thinking.
